Always Seeking the Best Talent

To continue building success, we are interested in finding talented people who are eager to lead high-profile litigation. We take our recruiting process seriously and we only seek exceptional people with top academic records and skill sets, and who demonstrate superior initiative, creativity and interpersonal skills.

Application Process

If you are interested in pursuing a career with us, please forward to us the following items:

  • A letter identifying the position considered and how you can make a difference at Cole & Van Note;
  • Your resume;
  • If applying for a summer associate or attorney position, (1) a recent writing sample exhibiting your best legal work and (2) your most recent academic transcript.

Interview Process

If invited to visit the firm for an interview, you will usually meet one or more of our attorneys. Soon thereafter, you should receive notification of our decision of employment or our desire to have you return for a “call-back” interview. If you do receive an offer, we will provide you with the opportunity to talk with any member(s) of our team before you accept.

Attorney Positions

While some of our attorneys joined us directly out of law school, others possessed substantial experience, sometimes going back decades. Cole & Van Note encourages both new admittees and seasoned employment, consumer rights and/or class action litigators to contact us to discuss the availability of these positions.

Summer/Semester Clerk and Externship Positions

We offer positions to paralegal and law school program candidates and graduates for summer and semester positions. In fact, these programs drive our attorney hiring efforts. Our hiring goal is to provide a diverse group of outstanding students and graduates the opportunity to work with Cole & Van Note’s attorneys and learn first-hand about our practice areas. Our expectations for these students and graduates are high and our standards are rigorous, but the rewards are tremendous. The program enables us to provide and then evaluate the legal skills of these developing paralegals and lawyers in a real-world context, not a “make-work,” environment. Participants work on legal matters similar to those assigned to full-time associate attorneys, traveling to client locations, assisting our attorneys by addressing client needs and gaining familiarity with document analysis, depositions and court proceedings.

In past years, we have made offers of full-time employment to clerks/externs who demonstrated an excellent grasp of our practice areas and the skills to help maintain our firm’s preeminent status. On occasion, clerks/externs who accept our offers are given the opportunity to work as part-time research assistants during the school year, while others become full-time staff immediately. Both opportunities offer exposure to all aspects of the firm.

Support Staff Positions

Cole & Van Note is constantly seeking motivated individuals with exemplary legal and administrative skills for support staff positions. Depending on the positions available, legal experience, while preferred, is not necessarily required. What we do require are exceptional interpersonal, technological and independent-thinking skills as well as a winning attitude–the same qualities possessed by our current staff.

What We Offer

The Cole & Van Note benefits package makes up an important part of the total compensation for our employees. Employees find an array of plans and programs from which they can choose. Depending on the employment position, some of the key components of the benefits package include:

  • Competitive Salaries;
  • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance Coverage;
  • Educational Assistance/Tuition Reimbursement Programs;
  • Merit-based Bonuses.
